ACTIONS Day

By Becky Cox

Every year in March CCC hosts their annual ACTIONS Day. ACTIONS stands for Academic Competition That Inspires Our Nation’s Scholars. This is the school’s 26th year hosting. This day originated in Sandy Creek, but quickly outgrew the small school.

A day full of taking tests, sound boring doesn’t it? It can actually be pretty fun. Teachers enter their students in a category they tend to excel in. Events range from Notorious People to Genetics to Music. Students can be entered into three different tests and must at least take two. Around 800 students from 26 schools in the Tri City area attended to compete.

Bobcat Speech Team

by Katlyn Brooks

This season, the bobcat speech team has been placing really good. On February 4th they were invited to Aurora to compete. Poetry placed second and sixth, while Oral Interpretation of Drama (OID) placed third and fifth. They were also invited to Sandy Creek’s competition on February 11th, placing even better. While OID placed fourth, poetry placed first! About two weeks later on February 22nd, was the Twin Valley Conference (TVC). OID placed second and poetry placed fifth. Three days later on February 25th, poetry got fifth place and OID got third place. The team will participate in districts on March 14th at Deshler.

“This is my first year working with the speech team,” says Mrs. Schwinn, “so I’m learning a lot about how the competitions actually work. Blue Hill has a small group compared to many other nearby schools so the chances of winning meets is always slim. However, the events we do take always compete very closely with the best in their respective events. Even after multiple practices and meets, the OID still makes me laugh with their Star Wars characters.”
